Abstract

As the heat flux density of electronics increases, efficient cooling technology is the key to solving the problem of high cooling energy consumption and precise cooling in data centers. In this paper, a two-phase immersion cooling system with multi-mode condenser is proposed. The operation performance of the system is calculated by establishing a mathematical model. Taking COP as the efficiency index of operating energy, the switching temperature of adjacent modes is determined. The energy saving potential of the system in typical cities with different climate characteristics (Shenyang, Beijing, Nanjing and Kunming) is analyzed. The results show that the annual average COP of immersion cooling system in typical cities is 38.71, 37.05, 35.53, 37.25 (Novec 649) and 32.57, 30.56, 28.57 and 27.07 (Novec 7000) respectively. Compared with the traditional air cooling system adopting the same multi-mode condenser, the COP of the immersion cooling system (Novec 649) is 6.7 ∼ 7.7 times that of the traditional air cooling system in four typical cities. The operating cost of immersion cooling system is much lower than that of traditional air cooling system and the operation cost of the system (Novec 7000) is 38.86 % higher than that of the system (Novec 649) on average.
