Abstract

With enacting the third energy liberalization package in 2009 the increased concern in protection of households in energy poverty started. The Slovak Republic has not have experience with definition of energy poverty. Therefore, it is important to set up its appropriate definition and measures for support of consumers in energy poverty.The article analyses different definitions of energy poverty and their applications on a Slovak household. We introduce roots and principles of protection of European households in energy poverty and analyse a situation in Slovakia from the point of regulatory norms and statistical data.
