Abstract

For a year's now, the attention has been drawn to the issue of energy saving not only in the interior lighting, and also for outdoor lighting applications. When considering its direct and indirect costs a better understanding of good lighting practices needed or else complete waste of energy and is not sustainable. The LEDs are came into picture to have better energy saving. But, it is important to work on both quality and quantity aspects of outdoor light source as the power ratings of the lamps used for outdoor lighting is higher than the indoor lighting. This paper deals technical parameters of lighting (S/P (Scotopic/Photopic ratio)), brightness, and energy performance analysis and quality (psychological) aspects of lamps used for roadway lighting. This study shows, the lamps with Low S/P ratio, LPSV and HPSV gives more comfortable for road users than other white color light source (Cool White LEDs) from psychological analysis. And from energy performance analysis, it is observed that the lamp with more S/P ratio is feasible to replace conventional light source while maintaining same brightness level.
