Abstract

Detection of various brain conditions during any mental task is a very important area to diagnosis the cognitive impairment in the person. Electroencephalography is how to detect electrical activity in the human brain. The purpose of this study is to provide insight into diagnostics parameters of EEG signal which is used for finding the cognitive impairment of a person during mental arithmetic task. EEG was collected from 15 subjects during the mental arithmetic task. They are students of Educational and Scientific Centre "Institute of Biology and Medicine", National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv (Ukraine). These records were taken through The Physio bank platform. The EEG from temporal, occipital, frontal and parietal brain was analyzed using MATLAB platform, both during the performance of the mental arithmetic task and before the mental task. The study calculated the energy and energy ratio using wavelet 1D multi-signal analysis. The result showed that the energy and energy ratio during the performance of mental task is much higher than that of before the mental task for all the brain lobes.
