Abstract

nergy is needed in various stages ofdesalination. Energy consumption directlyaffects the cost-effectiveness andfeasibility of using desalination technologies fordrinking water production. This chapter presentsenergy types, use, methods of conservation, andthe potential use of renewable energy resourcesfor desalination. Some of the information providedin this chapter may not be applicable to today’sdesalination energy issues. However, theinformation provides a comparison between costsassociated with various energy sources as appliedto desalination worldwide, and can be used as areference for future energy development and usefor desalination.
