Abstract

This paper proposes an energy management system to coordinate the use of PV generation and battery energy storage system in an existing university campus in Brazil. The proposed methodology was implemented using Simulated Annealing algorithm to optimally operate battery system and reduce energy consumption costs. Simulation results were obtained using real system's demand data, typical meteorological information to predict the PV generation, and a time-of-use energy tariff currently adopted by the local power utility company. A technical and economic analysis was conducted, and results indicate the proposed energy management system with PV generation and battery energy storage system can be a good strategy to reduce the campus energy consumption costs.
