Abstract

Mobile Ad Hoc Newark (MANET) is a collection or group of wireless mobile nodes that connect devices to communicate with each other through a wireless channel. The high mobility and dynamic topology nature of these nodes have opened MANET to challenges such as routing, resource discovery, node cooperation, network link breakages, energy constraints, and the absence of secured boundaries. Most existing work partly solves these aforementioned drawbacks by addressing the issue of energy constraints, but with less emphasis on knowing the amount of energy that is present in mobile nodes. Hence, the aim of this research work is to develop a model for energy management for MANET using the adaptive information weight (AIW-BA) technique. The developed model was implemented in the MATLAB 9.8 (R2020a) programming environment. The performance metrics used for this work are the saved energy in the nodes and the energy saving percentage. This work was compared with the routing protocols of some of the existing techniques. The results demonstrated that the developed model (AIW-BA) saves energy more effectively and efficiently than some of the existing methods. This study was able to provide adequate energy and hence prolong the network's lifetime.
