Abstract

One of the notable and major problems in distribution systems is the losses, which causes energy loss. In this respect, placing fixed and switchable capacitors in the primary and secondary networks of distribution systems can reduce the energy and peak power losses and improve the voltage profile in the feeder. In this paper, a novel method for simultaneous allocation of fixed and switchable capacitors in distribution systems with varying load is presented. As a cost function in optimization procedure, cost of energy loss, installation and purchase costs of capacitors and cost of peak power loss are considered. For optimization algorithm, GA with new coding and operators are used. One of the significant characteristics of the proposed GA-based method is providing the switching table for allocated capacitors in various loading. The proposed method was tested and compared with other methods in many cases with satisfactory results.
