Abstract

Theoretical equations can be used to predict the loss of energy at the junction of an inflowing lateral with a straight main pipe with satisfactory results for most uses. In most cases, the theoretical junction energy loss coefficient is larger than the coefficient determined experimentally. The junction energy loss coefficient for a center lateral is slightly less than the coefficient for a lateral entering the main pipe tangentially.
