Abstract
The high-resolution photoelectron spectrum of NO obtained with He 584 and Ar 1048–1067 lines is discussed. Eight ionic electronic levels reported by others are confirmed and six ionic ground vibrational frequencies are measured. Vibrational enhancement of the ground ionic X 1Σ + state observed with Ar lines is explained by the preionization of excited NO molecules, known by photoionization, in their ν′ 1 and ν′ 2 vibrational levels.
