Abstract

In this paper effects of inertia in magnetohydrodynamically lubricated hydrostatic thurst bearing with axial magnetic field are considered by using energy integral method (an approximate technique). The flow rate and the load capacity obtained are in agreement with those obtained by the exact method due to Shukla and Kapur1). This technique can also be applied to problems where the solution can not be obtained by the exact method. Thus the effectiveness of energy integral method is established theoretically for the analysis of lubrication problems.
