Abstract

Ubiquitous nature of WSN paved way for its usage in different environments. Its applications are growing to many fields in the world. In such networks, there are many issues and challenges to be addressed. For instance, they are energy constrained networks with mobility that need energy efficient mechanisms. Especially MAC is the protocol that needs enhancement for different WSN deployments. In traditional deployments, it is to support multi-user access to same channel while in duty cycled networks it needs to achieve rendezvous to have energy efficient communications. Duty cycled networks are crucial for many applications like wind turbines where cyclical channels are used. Such networks need rendezvous for communication and thus traditional MAC is not suitable there. In this paper, we focused on different MAC protocols in different deployments modes. In other words, duty cycled MAC protocol are studied. It provides useful insights and directions for future work in implementation of new MAC protocols.
