Abstract

Wireless sensor network has wide range of applications such as traffic analysis, environmental monitoring, localization, industrial process monitoring and radios, where the nodes operates on batteries so that energy consumption must be minimized. The total energy consumption includes both the circuit energy and the transmission energy consumption. In this paper, to reduce energy consumption, survey on different cooperative communication schemes is studied. Its main objectives are to conserve energy, boost network throughput and improve network coverage. CMIMO is a type of the cooperative communication and it emulate the functionality of multi-antenna systems by grouping wireless devices (nodes) to operate as virtual multi-antenna nodes. It is shown that the energy efficiency of the network can be improved by using cooperative communication scheme rather than simple clustering and data aggregation.
