Abstract

The energy distributions of electrons transmitted through thin foils are investigated especially with regard to the possibilities of an analytical representation of these spectra. Most probable energy losses are quantified and compared with mean energy losses. A mathematical description of the energy spectra is presented and its applicability in the electron acceleration energy region between ≈15 and 40 keV is proved by comparison with experimentally found distributions. Due to the simple form of the respective formulae several physical phenomena such as energy deposition by electrons in solids, scattering phenomena, etc., can easily be investigated and quantified.
