Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the energy correlations for mixed rotational bands. It presents a schematic model for the mixing of rotational bands above the yrast line in which well-deformed nuclei are considered. The chapter discusses the implications of band mixing for γ-ray energy correlations. With increasing energy of unresolved r-transitions, not only higher angular momenta but also higher excitation energy above the yrast line are dealt with. The main cause for the change in the rotational pattern evidenced by the γ-γ ray energy correlations, the high angular momentum, or the excitation energy has not been ascertained. The chapter discusses the consequences of the excitation energy. It describes the average properties of the band mixing for deformed nuclei. The yrast configuration is obtained by filling the lowest orbitals of the cranked mean field, and a set of eigenstates are obtained as many-particle many-hole excitations relative to the yrast configuration. These eigenstates are labeled by the angular momentum I. The rotational frequency in each state is adjusted such that the expectation value of the angular momentum along the cranking axis equals I.
