Energy Consumption Prediction using Degree Days based on Comfort Temperature

Abstract

The ever growing demand for energy due to the numerous new smart devices has led to a need for optimizing the energy usage. The problem for energy usage optimization is twofold, one being using highly power efficient devices the other being monitoring the power usage. The monitoring of power usage involves knowing the expected power usage and thus determining the deviation from the baseline. In this paper we propose a novel method to predict energy consumption by combining the concepts of degree days and thermal comfort indices. We showcase the process for predicting the energy consumption and compare it with a well-accepted method for energy consumption prediction.
