Abstract

Reducing the energy consumption in the energy intensive production systems is of economic, environmental, and social significance. For the purpose of wider applications, this paper extends the research of the energy consumption optimization in the two-machine Bernoulli lines to the geometric lines. The energy consumption optimization problem in the two-machine geometric line is formulated and the analysis approach developed for the two-machine Bernoulli lines is adopted. Specifically, two optimality equations, which are derived from the energy consumption optimization problem, are established for the two-machine geometric line. Properties of the optimality equations are explored and utilized in the algorithm design. It shows that the algorithm can (numerically) solve the unique optimal solution of the optimality equations, from which the optimal solution of the energy consumption optimization problem in the two-machine geometric line is easily constructed.
