Abstract

Nowadays, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been widely used in many applications. A wireless sensor node is equipped with a very limited power source due to its hardware constraints. In addition, for most applications, replenishment of power resources is impossible. WSN lifetime, therefore, shows a strong dependence on the battery lifetime. As a solution, the reasons for minimizing the energy consumption in the network should be carefully examined and a new energy-efficient routing metrics must be developed for WSNs. In this paper, the total energy consumed per iteration was analyzed. In additional, an energy efficient routing protocol for heterogeneous WSNs has been proposed. The eligibility of the proposed technique is demonstrated by the results from the simulation. It has been shown that the proposed technique exceeds all other protocols including the well known hLEACH, the EEHC and EECDA which resulted in a significant increase in network lifetime.
