Abstract
In the industrial sector, burning of fossil fuels results in the emission of greenhouse gases, which is considered as one of the majorcauses of climate change and global warming. The purpose of this study is to determine trends in energy consumption and CO2 emission from the building materials industry (cement, glass, products from baked clay) in the period of 1996 to 2018. Input-output tables of Vietnam was used to calculate total energy consumption and CO2 emission for each sector. The results show that in 2018, total energy consumption was about 18223.612ktoe, total CO2 emission was about 73917.608ktCO2-e. The cement industry contributes 70% of both total energy consumption and CO2 emission in 2018. In order to decrease the CO2 emission from cement industry in the future, several solutions such as co-processing of wastes in cement kiln, recovery of waste heat generation, and use of alternative materials are proposed.
