Abstract

To convert a low-cost Si photodiode into a tissue equivalent gamma ( chi ) ray detector, the photon attenuation characteristics of Cu and Sn on the photodiode were studied. A simple analytical model fits the experimental results. Based on the model, the energy response of the Si photodiode is adjusted to tissue equivalence within the energy range between 0.06 and 1.25 MeV using the Cu/Sn filters. A prototype detector was designed and shown to be well behaved with regard to compliance with ANSI standards.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
