Abstract

An axial magnetic field is now used successfully in ionic argon lasers for increasing the lasing power and reducing the degree of fracture of the capillary walls of the gas-discharge tube, and such a field is used in atomic lasers for selecting longitudinal and transverse types of oscillations and stabilizing the lasing power in a single-frequency mode. In a heliunr-neon laser, a transverse magnetic field is used for increasing the lasing power at the 0.63-~ line because of suppression of the competing 3.39-~ line.
