Abstract

AbstractEnergy management has becoming a priority for organizations to reduce energy costs, to maximize their profits with minimal resources used, to comply legal requirements and to strive to sustainable business. Energy management standards, such as ISO 50001, represent the good practice, but have certain limitations. Therefore, the energy management maturity models could be used in different engineering sectors as a tool for continuous improvement. Energy maturity models have been used as an instrument to assess the current state of an organization, to rank the improvement measures and to manage and identify the progress. This paper proposes the energy management maturity model that is ISO 50001 processes based and Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle organized. The model was verified in production organizations in Serbia, which shows that all maturity levels exist in practice. The conducted study was performed in 24 organizations in two years: 2019 and 2021, where overall organizations’ maturity levels had better ranks. The average maturity level in research sample was 3.44 (proposed model with 5 maturity levels). The Act process phase had average maturity level 3 and Check phase 4.31. In two years there is evident overall improvement of the maturity level scores for most of the analyzed organizations.KeywordsEnergy managementISO 50001Maturity model
