Abstract
Abstract The linkage between energy and outdoor recreation is an important one in times of abundance as well as scarcity. Most studies on this topic are relatively recent, originating with the “energy crisis” of 1974. After a decade of widely scattered research, it seems appropriate to take stock of the progress made. The purposes of this paper are to review the literature relevant to energy and outdoor recreation, provide an organizing framework, evaluate the body of work, and recommend avenues of further inquiry.
