Abstract

Energy losses of B-, N-, O- and S-Ions in gold-, silver- and nickel-targets were measured by a new method, based on the elastic backward scattering of these ions from thick targets. The agreement of the results with semiempiric estimates of Northcliffe is excellent as far as these estimates are made. Charge distributions of O- and S-Ions after scattering from thick targets were also measured and the values of γ2 determined. The energy losses calculated from these γ2 values agree within the errors with the directly measured values.
