Abstract

Double resonance laser spectroscopy via the E, F1Σ+g, v′ = 6, J′ state was used to probe the v = 12 and 13 levels of the D 1Π+u state of H2. Dissociation spectra were recorded by detecting atomic ion production as a function of energy using a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Experimental linewidths corresponding to predissociative lifetimes on the order of ∼100 ps for the J = 1–4, v = 12 and 13 levels of D 1Π+u state are reported for the first time. Transition energies were also measured and used to determine rotational constants for the v = 12 and 13 levels.
