Abstract

Recently, for environmental, economical, social, in other words, for sustainability reasons, the world started to search for new and cleaner energy sources. Sugar factory of cane and beet are agro-based industry that generates various wastes viz bagasse, molasse, pulp, mud and Foam. The physicochemical characterization showed that most of these byproducts are formed by lignocellulosic matter with different treatment processes can produce clean energy, such bioethanol, bioelectricity and biofuel. This is a strategy that has already taken the path to international level particularly in the Brazil, USA, and European country. They seek to establish a biorefinery using byproducts of the sugar industry. This paper presents a review of the highlights that have been achieved during the recent years and the state of the art for most important efforts in the field of renewable energies, with emphasis on valorization of byproducts of the sugar industry.
