Abstract

This article explores the nature of artistic and psychoanalytic encounters that promote a kind of endurance. Such encounters slow time down, reminding us that there is something important about stillness, about remaining with a situation until it organizes itself under the pressure of its own desire. The pleasure and pain of endurance is examined with particular reference to the artistic practice of Marina Abramović and the chaotic situation of Jacques Lacan’s waiting room.
