Abstract

Some of the current critical problems in nursing stem from lack of funding and time to engage wholeheartedly in useful and scholarly research programs. The endowed research professorship, or “chair”, is one vehicle that is widely recognized by the academic research community as a means of facilitating research, ensuring quality, and promoting the socialization of upcoming scientists. Because little is known about the use of these chairs in nursing, an expioratory pilot study was conducted to examine how established disciplines view endowed research chairs. Perspectives from other disciplines are shared and suggestions are given for future research.
