Abstract

Blunt thoracic trauma causing pseudoaneurysm formation in an aortic arch branch is not common. Blunt injury usually affects the aortic isthmus and innominate artery,1,2 and its mechanism is suspected to be arterial compression between the sternum and the spine and neck hyperextension-related longitudinal shear stress.2 Blunt aortic injuries have been classified as intimal tear, large intimal flap, pseudoaneurysm and rupture.3 The most common manifestations of innominate artery blunt injury are intimal tears and pseudoaneurysm formation.
