Abstract

Autologous or nonallergised pig lymphocytes adhere to pig aortic endothelium in monolayer culture to a greater extent than to either fresh large vessel endothelium or a variety of other cultured cell types. The ability of the endothelium to bind lymphocytes varies with the conditions under which it is cultured and depends on the accumulation of a neuraminidase labile surface component. Adherent lymphocytes will migrate through the confluent monolayers under appropriate conditions. These observations may be relevant to the mechanism of lymphocyte emigration from blood vessels in vivo.
