Endoscopically assisted extraction of the impacted maxillary third molars via inferior meatal antrostomy

Abstract

This article reports a case of the extraction of impacted third molars in maxillary sinus through endoscopy assisted inferior meatal antrostomy. A 25-year-old female patient was referred for the management of the impacted third molars. On computed tomography image, both the right and left maxillary third molars were medially located close to the posterior wall of maxilla, and osseous connections proceeding inferiorly to the floor of maxilla were observed. A transnasal endoscopic approach through inferior meatal antrostomy was performed, and the maxillary third molar was extracted with careful dissection. The patient did not present significant post-operative bleeding or edema and she was able to breathe through her nose without problem, and she also presented an excellent post-operative recovery. We report the endoscopy assisted transnasal extraction of maxillary third molar which is minimally invasive and shows less morbidity rates compared to conventional lateral sinus approach.
