Abstract

A 59-year-old man with a history of metastatic rectal cancer presented with abdominal pain and fever. The patient initially presented with rectal bleeding in May 2005 and was found to have rectal adenocarcinoma. A low anterior resection was performed, but 2 small liver metastases were detected during surgery. He underwent adjuvant chemotherapy and subsequent resection of the metastases. The postoperative course was complicated by a bile leak, which was managed with endoscopic biliary-stent placement and percutaneous drainage.
