Abstract

Objective: From the concept of field carcinogenesis, patients with head and neck cancer are considered at high risk for esophageal cancer. We have been screening head and neck cancer patients by esophagoscopy with iodine staining since 1993. In this study, we examined the usefulness of this screening in the early detection and treatment of esophageal cancer. Subjects: The subjects were 1,159 patients with head and neck cancer who had undergone esophagoscopy with iodine staining between 1988 and 2003.
