Abstract

The introduction of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic resection has offered a new alternative to simple observation or surgical resection for the management of esophageal submucosal tumors and polypoidal lesions. With the development of endoscopic techniques, there has been a marked increase in local treatment modalities for early esophageal neoplasms. Granular cell tumor and carcinosarcoma of the esophagus are rare neoplasms and their diagnosis is mainly based on histopathologic examination of endoscopic biopsies. In this case series, we describe the removal of a granular cell tumor presenting as submucosal nodule and a carcinosarcoma presenting as polypoidal mass by the endoscopic submucosal dissection technique, and briefly discuss the literature on clinicopathologic aspects and their management.
