Abstract

People with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may even experience pain while swallowing. This can lead to a poor quality of life, weight loss and malnutrition. In this article, Steven Mann discusses the indication for dilatation for people with dysphagia, appropriate patient preparation, the choice of dilators, risks and benefits of the procedure and how to manage the patient during and after the procedure.
