Abstract

Gastric neoplasms account for the majority of all upper gastrointestinal neoplasms. Endoscopy is the most accurate means of diagnosis compared with radiologic or other diagnostic methods. Endoscopic biopsies are reliable for tissue diagnosis if such tumors are mucosal and less reliable for diagnosis of submucosal neoplasms. Specialized endoscopic methods such as fine needle aspiration, electrocautery snare biopsy, and endoscopic ultrasound may increase diagnosis. Gastric neoplasms are discussed, including an overview of their incidence and prevalence, clinical features, means of diagnosis (especially endoscopic), prognosis, and treatments, including endoscopic.
