Abstract
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a disorder affecting both children and adults. Patients often suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease-like symptoms (such as heartburn and regurgitation), intermittent dysphagia, and food impaction. Endoscopic appearance is broad and includes, among others, ring formation of the mucosa (‘cat or feline esophagus’), longitudinal mucosal furrows, friability, and whitish speckles. Confocal imaging now allows for a more detailed analysis of the esophageal tissue, thereby enabling in vivo diagnosis of the disease. Endoscopic aspects of EoE using standard white-light endoscopy and confocal laser endomicroscopy are demonstrated in the given video. This article is part of an expert video encyclopedia.
