Abstract

Aspiration of gallbladder bile stimulated by the injection of sincalide during duodenoscopy can provide a presumptive diagnosis of biliary tract disease in patients whose symptoms are suggestive but whose cholecystograms or echograms are unrevealing. The finding of cholesterol crystals or calcium bilirubinate pigment or both was associated with histologic evidence of cholecystitis, often with cholesterolosis or small stones, in 31 of 33 patients.
