Abstract

The endolysin enzyme from a giant but mostly temperate bacteriophage, recovered from a zebra carcass as well as a nearby soil sample in Etosha National Park in Namibia, Africa, is effective in disrupting Bacillus anthracis and other Bacillus species, according to Holly Ganz at the University of California, Davis, Jochen Klumpp of ETH Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland, and their collaborators. Subsequent analysis helps to explain the broad host range of this unusual phage and provides details about how it interacts with its bacterial hosts.
