Abstract

It has been shown that the pool size of pyridine nucleotides display an endogenous rhythm with a period length of 9–12 h in continuous darkness. Phytochrome modulates the amplitude of the oscillation in NADP, NADPH and NAD during the first hours of darkness. It is concluded that phytochrome modulates electron flow under conditions where overall energy transduction displays a circadian rhythm.
