Abstract

The endogenous protein kinase activity of purified nuclei from Ti plasmid transformed and non-transformed cell cultures of Nicotina tabacum was determined and compared to that of nuclei from tobacco leaves. The transformation event did not result in an enhanced kinase activity as it is known from human and animal tissue, the kinase activity of leave nuclei is strongly reduced. In any species, however, the specificity of histone phosphorylation did not vary, the H1 is the only histone which was phosphorylated utilizing ATP or GTP as the donator.
