Abstract

Calcium endogenous to bovine milk was biosyntheticallylabeled by intravenous injection of calcium highly enriched in 44Ca to a single lactating dairy cow. Approximately 63% of a 4 g dose was recovered in the milk in 56.5 h. The milk was homogenized, pasteurized and then stored at −70°C after processing. A 300% enrichment of 44Ca in the first postdose milking was sufficient for use in human feeding studies currently underway.
