Abstract

A non-traditional approach to mitigating low voltage at the end of a rural distribution feeder by implementing a small solar photovoltaic (PV) system is presented. The solution was the most cost-effective alternative to mitigate a seasonal low voltage condition at the end of the feeder. The distribution feeder and the PV system were modeled and validated by comparing the results of measured data to the output of the model. Then, a solar PV system project was developed, constructed, and commissioned. The solar PV system has been in service for two years, effectively mitigating the low voltage condition.
