Abstract
Fox M.T., Pitt S.R., Gerrelli D., Jacobs D.E. and Simmonds A.D. 1988. Endocrine effects of a trickle infection with Dictyocaulus viviparus in the calf. International Journal for Parasitology 18: 549–551. Endocrine effects of a trickle infection with Dictyocaulus viviparus larvae were investigated in the calf. A small increase in plasma pepsinogen levels was recorded 10–14 days after the beginning of the experiment and related to the site of penetration of invading lungworm larvae. An increase in total thyroxine levels later in the study was due, in part at least, to the presence of autoantibodies interfering with the hormone assay. Free thyroxine levels remained unaltered.
