Abstract

The endochronic constitutive equation is written in differential form, which is then used to describe the deviatoric behavior of drained sand in true triaxial test. Explicit equations have been derived. The modified concept of intrinsic time is applied so that no built‐in discontinuities exist in the constitutive equation. Triaxial compression test (TC) is used to determine the material constants of the differential form. Other tests considered are the triaxial extension test (TE) and shear tests (SS) with several stress ratios. An equation has been derived that is capable of describing both densification and dilation behaviors. It is shown that the theory does lead to reasonable agreement with experimental results of true triaxial test. Both the deviatoric response and the densification‐dilation behavior of Ottawa sand have been investigated.
