Abstract

Study Objective: Endocervical coring during hysterectomy, a previously described technique, removes a central cylinder of tissue from the cervix. While this maneuver may have other benefits, removing this tissue may reduce cyclic vaginal bleeding and subsequent development of cervical neoplasia. In this pilot study we aimed to evaluate the amount and type of tissue removed during endocervical coring at laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy with transcervical morcellation (LSH/TCM). Removal of all or a majority of active endocervical tissue would provide pathologic evidence in support of the safety and efficacy of supracervical hysterectomy.
