Abstract

Two isomers each of α-P4S2SeX2 and α-P4SSe2X2 (X=Cl, Br) have been identified by 31P-NMR spectroscopy in mixtures obtained from thermal reaction of PX3 and P4S1.4Se1.6. Systematic changes in chemical shifts and coupling constants with electronegativity of the ligand by exocyclic substitution and with alteration of the molecular geometry by the replacement of sulfur by selenium are reported.
