Abstract

ABSTRACT While the importance of small businesses in economic development is widely acknowledged, their “failure-syndrome” during the formative years has been a matter of concern. There is general agreement that the problem is essentially due to lack of entrepreneurial skills in business management. One solution to the problem, which is increasingly being adopted, is to establish a Centre dedicated to the development of entrepreneurial skills. The paper describes the establishment of one such Centre in Singapore, the NTI-Peat Marwick Entrepreneurship Development Centre (ENDEC) and its contribution to small-business development during the first two years of the Centre's existence.
