Abstract

Today almost everybody uses the GSM system in some way. The fact that the infrastructure is already there makes it easy and convenient. But is it secure? It is a fact that the communication channel in a GSM call is only partly encrypted. At the same time we also know that there is commercial equipment available for tapping the system. In some countries the service provider even turns off the encryption to extend the traffic throughput in the network. NSK200 is a secure mobile telephone system. The system is based on an integrated security philosophy, where the crypto module and related hardware are built into the mobile phone. For encrypted calls and transfer of files, the NSK200 uses the transparent data service of the GSM system. The system can be used for both plain text and encrypted data and voice calls, over GSM networks. In addition the NSK200 has a built-in DECT functionality, which can be used for connecting through public and satellite networks. The NSK200 is SECAN approved up to level `NATO Secret'. (5 pages)
