Abstract

Abstract Ethically and legally, counselors must safeguard client rights. One aspect of this task is to ensure that clients make informed decisions about entering counseling. Training students about informed consent procedures can be challenging, and little literature has addressed effective structured methods educators and supervisors could use while training students in these important counseling skills. In this article, the authors propose a teaching model, which encourages and allows students to apply their own unique style of obtaining informed consent, while following necessary ethical and legal standards.
